Oh, that’s right. Never.
The following is a rant on the yaoi eye-candy webcomic, Teahouse. (link often nsfw)
Okay, I’mma start right off with: yes, I know it’s a webcomic, yes, I know you can ship who you want, and yes, I know it’s fiction. I understand. Got the t-shirt any everything.

But this girl has been in-comic for THREE PAGES, and I am already sick to god of all the hate she’s getting because she gets in the way of the fandom’s main
I absolutely love this post (please read it in its entirety by clicking the title’s link) for pointing out the ridiculous things being said about Yvette, and the underlying problems those salacious posts uncover. I mean, let’s get real… any mass-fanbased story with any kind of pairings or love triangles (or, in Xanthe/Linneus’ cases, love hexagons?) is going to have some rabid fangirls and the rabidly typed opinions that come with them… But, also, rabid fangirls were never a positive thing.
My one lingering issue with the Teahouse comic (and don’t get me wrong, I ADORE this comic… I’m addicted… I get so excited and giggly over updates) is that there is yet to be any lady-love even hinted at. I understand it’s a yaoi webcomic, and as such will focus on man-to-man relationships, but there are also heterosexual relationships or at least couplings going on, so there should—by logic—be some lesbianism happening somewhere. Personally, I would LOVE to see Claret gettin’ it on with another woman. She’s ridiculously adorable, beautiful, bubbly, and she’s such a great character—yet seems to only appear in relation to the OTHER characters, most specifically the men.
All that said… I love Xanthe. It’s irrational, because he’s acting like an asshole, prick, cold-hearted bastard… yet I was attached to the character instantly, hoping there was something underneath that he could access with help. I want a transformation story with him, I guess. I want him to atone for his wrongs, and I want him to feel happy and content, as well… without hurting others.
And I keep trying to see that in him… even as my girlfriend rails at me that he’s scum and Linny/Gildur 4ever and—-Yeah. But he makes it hard to keep seeing that, the more he pushes everyone away and does hurtful things. But I still think that the characters of Teahouse have the capability of being deeper… there just hasn’t been much opportunity given to them. There’s so much fluff plot because fans (oh, me included) do enjoy that, and when you get serious sometimes after being so fluffy people don’t follow with you. I’m not a master of character development, but I do recognize that there’s not much depth going on… the comic’s more for the “lulz,” in my opinion. There are other comics for depth, drama, and character movement…
Lastly… Yvette is adorable. If she wants to be excited about her husband getting her pregnant, then she has EVERY right to be! I don’t see ANY evidence supporting the idea of her as manipulative or even whiny. She wants to spend time with her HUSBAND. Yes, folks, I know you don’t like it, table-flipping and all, but Xanthe IS married. Now, I’m not one to force monogamy or even the concept of it on anyone, and I think it’s perfectly permissible to have more than one partner if everyone’s above-board on it, so I don’t see him being married as barring his love to anyone else. That’s just me. I don’t know if CC and E are planning to have her as that kind of roadblock-to-gay-sex, but I just don’t see her that way.
She’s a girl who’s a wife and soon-to-be mother who wants to spend time with her man, and he’s avoiding her… and hooking up with skanky whores. (Sorry, I don’t like Lillith much… I consider her worthy of the title of skanky because of her meanness, but simply because she’s a whore. She has feelings just like anyone else, but she seems not to care if she hurts others’.)
In short… (haha)… I don’t understand the vicious hatred of Yvette, and I totally agree that it is a saddening social commentary from a large group of predominantly female fans.
