The above article is an update. Her mother went to appeal to keep her out of the psychiatric ward and lost. She will be institutionalized because of her expression of her gender. She will be held until she conforms to male gender and then released to foster care, not her mother who was supporting her.

WHY THE FUCK AREN’T PEOPLE REBLOGGING THIS??
The world needs to accept that not everyone’s gender identity lies in the same rut as other people interpret their physical / biological sex assignment to be.
Newsflash: There are not just two genders (binary).
Newsflash: Not everyone born with a penis and testicles actually feels like the ball of testosterone society things automatically comes with that. Not everyone born with a vagina and outer-swelled breast tissue actually feels like the estrogen-releasing flower society believes comes with THAT.
I have to wonder, again, as many have and continue to wonder, if modern society’s views on genders themselves weren’t so rigid—-I mean if being “male” or a “boy” didn’t conjure up a set list of characteristics, and being “female” or a “girl” didn’t do the same, only somehow opposite—-would we really have transgenderism or transsexualism at all? Or perhaps not as many people? I don’t know.
All I know is that there are not two “opposite” genders… and people exist far and wide outside of the cripplingly constraining labels society likes to tie around them like a fucking neat little bow.
It’s not just ignorant… it’s dangerous. You think we’d have as many suicides among teens if this weren’t an issue? Do you think we’d have as much bullying if world-wide society actually acknowledged the existence of gender issues and banished the binary?
I doubt it.
Now, I don’t know how much petitions in other countries have a crumb’s effect on the issues going on that started them… but I signed this one for good measure. I’m reblogging this not so you’ll sign it, not because I think you should believe everything you read, but because this is an issue that gets far too little press, and BELIEVE YOU ME, this shit CAN and DOES happen.
