MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS - SAME LOVE feat. MARY LAMBERT

There are so few songs out there in the music industry that even touch on the subject of gay relationships in a serious manner, in a non-negative manner…

I heard this on the radio, today, driving between work sites, and I started crying.  It’s about damn time there were any songs like this around on general radio broadcasts.

Good on you, Macklemore, for making it, and good on you, Radio 104.5, for playing it.

That last song on the CD that blows everything else away.

NO.

NOT.

LOUD.

ENOUGH.

EARGASM!

Hot damn.

My dad’s a music appreciator.  He grew up in a big family, the 6th of 8 kids, and with a 20 year span between the oldest and the youngest.  Because of that, he grew up listening to music from the 40s, 50s and 60s, and then added on his likes and tastes from there.
We don’t always agree on things, in fact, our views on life are VASTLY different (cannot stress this enough), but art is something we share a bond with.  While I wouldn’t dare broach the subject of politics, social stigmas or homophobia with my dear ol’ dad, I can have a two-hour conversation about movies, literature, paintings, or music.  This happens fairly frequently (and to Girlfriend’s dismay when it occurs in the middle of AIM conversations… sorry, Girlfriend), even earlier today over Django Unchained and the Lincoln-related books he’s been reading.
Needless to say, I share music with my dad.  When I discover a new band or a new sound, I always want to share it with him.  So we’ve started a thing where I’ll make him a mix CD of new(er) songs I’ve discovered, to give him a taste of what I’m listening to and what’s going on in the music world (at least in my current genres).  It’s fun for me, and it gives him broader horizons than re-listening to The Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, or The Who, despite how wonderful they are, of course.
This end-of-year compilation is shown above, and took some editing effort to keep it to the (fuckinggoddamnbitchofa) 80min cap music CDs hold to.  I had to cut out some good songs from Matchbox Twenty’s newest album, “North,” but I resolved to just make him a MT album later, spanning the other releases.
SO there you have it… a gratuitous ME-story, and a list of songs that shows a glimpse into my music taste.
They’re good songs and good bands… I recommend each and every one of them.

Seems appropriate.

These two are almost obscenely adorable.

Bottoms up tonight; I drink to you and I
‘cause with the morning comes the rest of my life
And with this empty glass, I will break the past
‘cause with the morning I can open my eyes
I want this to be my awakening

This is brilliant!  But just like all good roller-coasters, far too short.

“Tank!” — Yoko Kanno and The Seatbelts, from Cowboy Bebop

Can we all just take a moment… to appreciate… the musical magic… that is this opener?

Cowboy Bebop will forever be one of my very favorite anime series ever, and part of that is the fact that it’s short and tight in its plot arc, but a big part is also the music.  The music is inextricable from the series and its mood, and it’s brilliantly composed and performed.

So much love.

You’re welcome.
